Abode Island Residence

Enns | Gauthier Landscape Architects were retained to assess the existing property, exterior spaces, and surrounding landscape for a private residence on beautiful and reclusive Abode Island in West Vancouver. Only accessible by water, this sprawling mansion sits atop a small rocky island looking out over Howe Sound, with mature conifer trees and native wild roses providing protection from the sun, sea and wind.

Working closely with the client and representatives, E|G prepared an inventory and analysis of existing conditions, followed by a conceptual illustrative package that proposed a more cohesive and functional palette of materials, plants and furnishings that are easily recognizable as belonging to a West Coast style and form.

The design intent was to diversify the user experience, create distinct spaces for arrival, recreation, relaxation and inspiration. Consideration was also given to support possible vacation rentals, B&B ventures on the property, and an expanded private boat dock.
